Privacy Policy

The short version

Movvie has no accounts, no tracking and no ads. We do not collect your name, email, location or any other personal information. Your likes, watchlist and learned taste live on your device. The only thing that ever leaves your phone is what a Room needs to work — an anonymous ID, the display name you type in, and your movie votes — and that lives in Apple’s iCloud infrastructure, not on our servers.

Information we collect

None. Movvie does not require account creation and does not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, locations or any other personally identifiable information. We run no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels and no advertising networks.

Data stored on your device

The following stays in local storage on your iPhone and is never transmitted to us:

• Your likes, watchlist, watched history and hidden titles
• Your learned taste profile (built from what you like and save)
• App preferences — audience mode, watch region, streaming services, language filters

Your watch region and audience mode are settings you choose in the app — Movvie never uses your device’s location.

Rooms (movie matching)

Rooms let a group match on a movie using a join code — no accounts needed. To make this work, Movvie stores a small amount of data in Apple’s CloudKit public database:

• An anonymous, per-device participant ID (a random identifier, not your Apple ID)
• The display name you choose when joining a room
• The movies you vote on in that room, and any “Tonight’s Pick” the room crowns

No Apple ID or personal data is exposed to other room members. This data lives in Apple’s iCloud infrastructure and is subject to Apple’s privacy practices. We operate no servers of our own.

Third-party services

• The Movie Database (TMDB) — movie information, posters, ratings and trailers come from TMDB’s API. When you browse, your device makes requests to TMDB’s servers. See TMDB’s Privacy Policy. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
• JustWatch — streaming availability (“where to watch”) data is provided via TMDB in partnership with JustWatch.

External links

Movvie links out to external services — streaming apps, YouTube for trailers, the App Store. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services.

Children’s privacy

Movvie is designed to be family-friendly, opens in Family mode by default, and includes Kids and Family content filters. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13 — there is simply nothing to collect.

Data deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, you can delete it at any time by deleting the Movvie app. Leaving a Room removes your participation from it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date above.
